The Arrival of the “Second-Generation” Humanoid Robot: Capable of Dancing, Punching, and Even Renting!

Graceful ballet spins, punch and kick movements as steady as a human’s, a biomimetic face gently turning towards you… These scenes, once only seen in sci-fi films, are now becoming reality in laboratories and exhibition halls in Shanghai.

Recently, several tech companies have unveiled the next-generation humanoid robots. Compared to the clumsy “first generation”, these “second-generation” robots show a remarkable leap in the smoothness of their movements.
Not long ago, Yushu Technology introduced its H2 biomimetic robot, incorporating the first-ever human-like facial features. It demonstrated an impressive range of actions: from smooth walking to dancing, and even martial arts moves such as punching and side-kicking. The transitions between each movement were natural and seamless, with little to no noticeable mechanical jerks.

In particular, for actions requiring high coordination, such as punches and side-kicks, which demand precise body balance and control, the robot performed with great accuracy. The rhythm of the punch and the body extension and balance during the side kick were both controlled exceptionally well, highlighting significant improvements in its athletic performance.
With algorithm optimization, the robot can now perform complex dance routines and martial arts sequences, with body coordination and balance increasingly approaching that of a human.
To make robots more accessible to homes and businesses, an innovative business model has emerged in Shanghai—renting robots just like shared power banks. In December 2025, the country’s first open robot rental platform, “Qingtian Rental”, was officially launched in Shanghai.

The platform functions like a “robot rental supermarket”, where businesses and individuals can rent robots for commercial performances, product demonstrations, and other events, with prices ranging from several hundred to thousands of yuan per day. The platform has also attracted thousands of creators, who develop various “skill sets” for the robots—such as dancing, hosting, and guiding—making them smarter and more capable with each use. This model greatly lowers the threshold for using robots.

In Shanghai, a vibrant humanoid robot ecosystem has already taken shape, bringing together several leading companies:
National and local co-established Humanoid Robot Innovation Center: As a national-level open-source collaborative platform, it launched the “Qinglong” series of robots, which can seamlessly operate in complex outdoor environments by integrating 5G and Beidou navigation through an “intelligent backpack” system.

Fourier Intelligence: Their latest GR-3 robot features a soft, wrapped exterior that feels much warmer than the cold metallic surfaces of older models. The design emphasizes a more human-friendly interaction experience.

Zhiyuan Robotics: Their “Lingxi X2” robot, aimed at home scenarios, can dance, ride a bicycle, and understand the world through vision, performing delicate tasks.
Shanghai Electric and other industrial giants have also deeply engaged in this field, launching their own humanoid robots like the “Suyuan”, designed to address practical production issues like industrial material handling and assembly.

The Zhangjiang Robot Valley is speeding up the construction of real-world application experience spaces. This means robots are learning how to be effective in specific “practice arenas”, such as working as waiters, baristas, and sales assistants. At the same time, Shanghai is actively promoting robots’ application in commercial retail, healthcare, and elderly care. It can be said that robots are currently undergoing their “internships”, preparing to enter our everyday lives on a larger scale.
