  这个冬天,一场跨越时空的文化对话正在上海温暖上演。《云海相望——云冈石窟艺术特展》在上海虹口区今潮8弄与趣看美术馆同时开展,此次展览不仅呈现了中国古代石窟艺术的辉煌成就,更通过当代数字技术让千年瑰宝“行走”至江南。

  This winter, a cultural dialogue spanning time and space is taking place in Shanghai. The “Yunhai Meets the Sea: The Yungang Grottoes Art Exhibition” is being held simultaneously at Jin Chao 8 Alley and the Qu Kan Art Museum in the Hongkou District of Shanghai. This exhibition not only showcases the magnificent achievements of ancient Chinese cave art but also uses contemporary digital technology to bring these thousand-year-old treasures to life in the heart of Jiangnan.

  本次展览最引人注目的,是云冈第12窟“音乐窟”的1:1复原窟完整落位于今潮8弄。这座被称为“音乐窟”的石窟,壁上雕刻着众多手执琵琶、筚篥、古琴、横笛等乐器的伎乐天人,衣带飘扬、姿态各异的飞天随之起舞,共同组成一幅“天宫乐舞”的盛大场景,也被誉为“中国最早的宫廷交响乐团”。观众步入其中,不仅可以近距离观赏每一处雕刻的细节,还能聆听依据历史复原的古老乐音,仿佛穿越回1500年前的北魏,亲历那一场融合中西的佛国妙音。

  One of the most eye-catching features of this exhibition is the 1:1 full-scale restoration of Cave 12, the “Music Cave”, which has been placed in Jin Chao 8 Alley. Known as the “Music Cave”, this grotto is adorned with numerous celestial musicians holding instruments such as the pipa, bi-li (a type of wind instrument), guqin, and flute, accompanied by dancing flying apsaras with fluttering robes in various poses. Together, they create a grand scene of “Heavenly Music and Dance”, often hailed as “China’s earliest royal symphony orchestra”. Visitors can walk into the cave, closely observe the intricate carvings, and listen to the ancient melodies restored based on historical research. It feels as if they’ve traveled back 1,500 years to the Northern Wei dynasty, experiencing the fusion of Eastern and Western sounds in a Buddhist paradise.

  Revealing a Lost Treasure: The Debut of the “West Standing Buddha”

  展览同时呈现了云冈石窟近年重要的修复成果——此前仅存残块的云冈“西立佛”复原像首次公开展出。通过对出土佛像碎片的精细扫描与虚拟复原,研究人员借助数字技术重新推演其原貌,并以3D打印形式呈现。站在佛像前,可见其衣纹流畅、神态宁静,残损处亦被如实保留,引导观众凝视一段逐渐清晰的历史记忆。

  The exhibition also presents an important restoration achievement—the first public display of the “West Standing Buddha” from the Yungang Grottoes, which had previously only existed in fragmented remains. Through detailed scanning and virtual restoration of the broken pieces, researchers have reconstructed its original form using digital technology and 3D printing. Standing before the Buddha, visitors can appreciate the smooth flow of its robes and its serene expression, while the remnants of the statue are carefully preserved, offering a glimpse into the gradual unfolding of history.

  云冈石窟不仅是雕刻艺术的宝库,更是图像化的历史典籍。第12窟中雕刻的十四类、数十件乐器,包含中原传统乐器与西域传入的胡乐,直观反映了北魏时期丝路文化交流的盛况。此外,窟内多处浮雕讲述着佛教本生故事、佛传因缘,飞天、力士、化生童子等形象交织出一幅幅生动的净土画卷。展览通过清晰的图文解读,引导观众读懂石头上的故事,感受古人借助艺术传达的信仰与美学。

  The Yungang Grottoes are not only a treasure trove of sculptural art but also a visual history book. In Cave 12, over forty carved musical instruments, representing both traditional Chinese instruments and those from Central Asia brought along the Silk Road, offer a vivid reflection of the cultural exchange between East and West during the Northern Wei period. In addition, many of the cave’s reliefs illustrate the Buddhist jataka tales and the Buddha’s life stories, with figures like apsaras, warriors, and divine youths interwoven into colorful depictions of a Pure Land. Through clear illustrations and explanations, the exhibition guides visitors to understand the stories told in stone, allowing them to experience the faith and aesthetics conveyed through ancient art.

  A Cultural Dialogue Across Time

  展览特别设置了丰富的互动环节。观众不仅可以亲手触摸复制的石窟墙面,感受历经千年的质感,还能通过VR设备体验石窟开凿过程,聆听根据研究成果复原的古代乐器演奏。

  The exhibition includes a variety of interactive activities. Visitors can touch replicas of the grotto walls, feeling the texture that has endured for millennia. They can also experience the cave carving process through VR technology and listen to performances of ancient instruments, restored based on research findings.

  此外,展览还复原展示了云冈石窟最具代表性的第20窟佛首等重要文物,配合机器人技术复原的北魏力士舞表演,为观众打造了一场跨越时空的文化盛宴。

  In addition, the exhibition showcases some of the most representative relics from the Yungang Grottoes, including the Buddha head from Cave 20. Robot technology has also been used to recreate a Northern Wei warrior dance, offering audiences a cultural feast that bridges the ancient and modern worlds.

  纹饰之美:莲花、火焰与跨越千年的符号

  The Beauty of Patterns: Lotus, Flames, and Timeless Symbols

  石窟中遍布各类装饰纹样,其中莲花纹象征清净超脱,火焰纹代表智慧光明,忍冬纹、联珠纹等则流露出西亚与中亚艺术的影响。这些纹饰不仅是美观的图案,更是文化的融合与精神的象征。观众可在展区中细致观察这些纹样,体会工匠如何将抽象寓意转化为永恒的艺术语言。

  Throughout the grottoes, various decorative patterns abound. The lotus symbolizes purity and transcendence, the flame pattern represents wisdom and light, and motifs like the honeysuckle and interlocking bead patterns reflect influences from Western and Central Asian art. These designs are not only beautiful but also represent the fusion of cultures and spiritual symbols. In the exhibition, visitors can closely examine these intricate patterns and appreciate how artisans transformed abstract meanings into eternal artistic language.
