At Tong Han Chun Tang in Shanghai’s Yuyuan Garden, a Korean tourist is experiencing a traditional Chinese massage. “It’s amazing! The doctor seems to know exactly where I’m uncomfortable,” he marvels. Nowadays, more and more international visitors are traveling to China specifically to experience TCM, drawn by its unique appeal and global reputation.

2025年以来,随着中国免签政策范围扩大,多国游客可享免签便利,韩国、日本等国入境上海的订单增长超215%,上海接待外国游客预计将超600万人次,成为外国游客体验中国文化的热门目的地,其中中医文化深受青睐。在童涵春堂,几乎每隔一段时间都会有外国游客前来就诊,有的因旅途不适寻求调理,有的专程来体验针灸、推拿等特色疗法。
Since 2025, with China expanding its visa-free policies, visitors from multiple countries can enter without a visa. Bookings from countries like South Korea and Japan have surged by over 215%. Shanghai is expected to welcome more than six million international tourists this year, making it a top destination for experiencing Chinese culture. Traditional Chinese medicine has become one of the highlights.

At Tong Han Chun Tang, foreign visitors frequently arrive for consultations. Some seek relief from travel fatigue, while others come specifically to try acupuncture, tui na (Chinese therapeutic massage), and other signature therapies.Surveys show that over 60% of inbound tourists come to China primarily to experience its culture, with wellness being a key focus. During the 2025 Dragon Boat Festival, Pamela, a well-known fitness influencer from Germany, traveled to Tong Han Chun Tang to try TCM therapies. A practitioner took her pulse, asked detailed questions about her habits, and analyzed her overall health. She received tailored dietary advice and was introduced to a traditional TCM external treatment: acupuncture.

Another example is 63-year-old Belgian cycling enthusiast Claude Bruyl. Riding a specially designed solar-assisted bike from Brussels, he spent over 120 days traveling to Shanghai. Upon arrival, his first stop was Tong Han Chun Tang. He was amazed by TCM diagnostics: “Here, I saw a completely different approach than in Europe. Normally, we rely on machines for various tests. Here, just placing a finger on the pulse reveals so much information.”

中医,全称“中国传统医学”,是以阴阳五行学说为基础,通过“望、闻、问、切”四诊合参,分析人体病理变化,使用中药、针灸、推拿、按摩、拔罐、气功、食疗等多种治疗手段,达到调整阴阳、调和气血、防治疾病的目的。
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is based on the principles of yin and yang and the Five Elements. It uses the “Four Examinations”—looking, listening/smelling, asking, and pulse-taking—to analyze the body’s pathological changes. Treatments include herbal medicine, acupuncture, tui na, massage, cupping, qigong, and dietary therapy, all aimed at balancing yin and yang, regulating qi and blood, and preventing or treating disease.

而中医在中国的起源,可以追溯到很久很久以前。远古时代,中华民族的祖先发现了一些动植物可以解除病痛,积累了一些用药知识。随着人类的进化,开始有目的地寻找防治疾病的药物和方法,所谓“神农尝百草”“药食同源”,就是当时的真实写照。
TCM’s origins in China go back thousands of years. Ancient Chinese ancestors discovered that certain plants and animals could relieve ailments and gradually accumulated medical knowledge. As civilization progressed, people began intentionally seeking remedies for illnesses. The legendary “Shennong tasting hundreds of herbs” and the principle of “medicine and food share the same origin” reflect these early practices.

阴阳学说是中医的核心。中医认为,人体如宇宙,由阴阳两种对立统一的力量构成。阴阳平衡则健康,失衡则疾病生。例如,白天属阳,人体阳气外发,宜活动;夜晚属阴,阳气内藏,宜休息。若长期熬夜,就会耗伤阴血,导致失眠、乏力等症状。
Yin-yang theory is central to TCM. The human body, like the universe, consists of two opposing yet complementary forces. Health comes from balance; illness results from imbalance. For example, daytime is associated with yang, when energy flows outward and activity is appropriate, while nighttime is yin, when energy retreats inward and rest is necessary. Prolonged late nights can deplete yin and blood, leading to insomnia and fatigue.

晕车按内关穴
Car Sickness – Nei Guan Acupoint

内关穴位于前臂掌侧,腕横纹上2寸,两筋之间。晕车时,用拇指或食指指腹垂直按压,每次持续30秒至60秒,力度以酸胀感为宜,可缓解恶心、呕吐症状。
Located on the inner forearm, 2 cun above the wrist crease between two tendons. Press vertically with your thumb or index finger for 30–60 seconds at a comfortable, slightly sore pressure to ease nausea and vomiting.
头痛按风池穴
Headache – Feng Chi Acupoint

风池穴位于后颈部,枕骨下方两侧凹陷处。用双手拇指或食指指腹按压并上下揉动,每次1—2分钟,有助于缓解颈部肌肉紧张,减轻头晕、头痛。
Feng Chi Acupoint: Found on the back of the neck, in the depressions below the occipital bone. Press and gently massage with your thumbs or index fingers for 1–2 minutes to relieve neck tension, dizziness, and headaches.
失眠按神门穴
Insomnia – Shen Men Acupoint

神门穴位于腕部,腕掌侧横纹尺侧端。睡前用拇指轻揉,每次1—2分钟,可补益心气、安神定志,改善睡眠质量。
Located at the wrist crease on the ulnar side. Gently massage with your thumb for 1–2 minutes before bed to calm the mind and improve sleep quality.
